Drug Information Service

University of Utah Health's Drug Information Service (DIS) provides drug information to health care professionals affiliated with the University of Utah Health Sciences Center. The service is funded by University Hospitals & Clinics. The DIS enters into contracts to provide a variety of drug information services with institutions and corporations outside the University of Utah Health Sciences Center.

Professional Services:

The Drug Information Service provides information relevant to specific patient drug-related situations. Staff members provide health care professionals with therapeutic recommendations based on current medical literature. Written responses are provided upon request. Our experts can thoroughly research your request and prepare a literature search using a variety of computer databases including PubMed and other databases available from the National Library of Medicine, International Pharmaceutical Abstracts, Science Citation, Biological Abstracts, and MICROMEDEX. If you need other services not specifically listed, please contact us. We would be glad to assist you however possible.

For clients outside of the University Hospitals & Clinics, please contact the Drug Information Service for fees that may apply to the services provided.

Erin Fox, PharmD, MHA, BCPS, FASHP

Title:  Associate Chief Pharmacy Officer - Shared Services, PGY2 Program Director, Medication-Use Safety & Policy

Erin completed a Drug Information Specialty Residency after graduating from the University of Utah College of Pharmacy in 1999. She serves as secretary of the P&T Committee and residency program director for the PGY2 Medication-Use Safety & Policy residency. Areas of interest include drug shortages, medication use policy, drug information, evidence based medicine, and drug costs. Erin frequently serves as a media resource regarding drug shortages and drug prices. Follow her on twitter @foxerinr.


 

Stephen Andrews, PharmD, BCPS

Title:  Medication Safety Pharmacist

Stephen is a 2016 graduate of the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Pharmacy. He completed his PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residency (2017) and PGY2 Drug Information Specialty residency (2018) at The University of Kansas Health System. He is excited to work with the Drug Information team at the University of Utah Health.

When not at work, Stephen enjoys drinking coffee, landscape photography, and fishing. He is excited to explore new hiking trails with his wife and dog. While he misses Kansas City barbeque, he looks forward to making some in Salt Lake City.


 

Caitlyn Blake, PharmD

Title:  Drug Information Specialist

Caitlyn graduated from the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy in 2021. She then completed her PGY1 Pharmacy practice (2022) residency at ChristianaCare in Newark, DE and a PGY2 Medication-Use Safety and Policy residency (2023) at University of Utah Health. Her professional interests include drug information, medication safety, and transitions of care. She is excited to be staying on with the Drug Info team!

In her free time, Caitlyn enjoys finding new coffee shops, traveling, and completing jigsaw puzzles.

Sean Christensen, PharmD, BCPS

Title:  Drug Information Specialist

Sean graduated from the University of Utah College Of Pharmacy in 2020. He then completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residency (2021) and PGY2 Medication-Use Safety and Policy residency (2022) at University of Utah Health. His professional interests include drug information, medication safety, and primary care. He is delighted to work with the drug information team.

In his free time, Sean enjoys spending time with family and friends, mountain biking, swimming, finding new eateries, and aspiring to be a future apiarist.


 

Megan Dryer, PharmD

Megan Dryer, PharmD

Title:  Drug Information Specialist

Megan completed her Doctor of Pharmacy (2008) and Pharmacy Practice residency (2009) at the University of Utah. She enjoys working as a Drug Information Specialist and being part of the Drug Info team.

Megan enjoys being with family and friends, traveling, hiking, spending weekends at Bear Lake, playing cards, knitting, and reading.


 

Cliff Feddema

Cliff Feddema

Title:  Project Manager

Mr. Feddema is the DIS's project manager and administrative technician. He maintains order and sanity in the Center. He serves as the Department of Pharmacy Services' Webmaster.

Cliff has a Bachelor of Science in Writing and Rhetoric Studies. He is fond of a well-written essay and clever turns of phrase.

Title:  Drug Information Specialist

Leslie Jensen, PharmD

Leslie completed her Bachelor of Pharmacy degree (2003), Doctor of Pharmacy degree (2006), and Pharmacy Practice residency (2007) at the University of Utah. She currently works part-time at Drug Information Service on the Drug Shortage Team.

In her spare time, Leslie enjoys outdoor activities including biking, hiking, or walking to the park with her daughters. She also enjoys traveling, trying new recipes, and spending time with family and friends.


 

Kiersten Johnston, PharmD

Kiersten Johnston, PharmD

Title:  Drug Information Specialist

Kiersten is a 2012 graduate of the University of Utah College of Pharmacy. She completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residency (2013) and PGY2 Drug Information Specialty residency (2014) at the University of Utah. She is thrilled to work with the fabulous staff at the Drug Information Service.

When not involved in pharmacy-related activities, Kiersten enjoys swimming, going to concerts, and volunteering for HawkWatch International where she gets to play with American Kestrel chicks (and the occasional Western Screech Owl) every spring.


 

Dave Peterson, PharmD, BCPS

Dave Peterson, PharmD, BCPS

Title:  Drug Information Specialist

Dave graduated from pharmacy school in 2001 and completed a Drug Information Specialty Residency at the University of Utah in 2002. He has worked as a Drug Information Specialist at the University of Utah Drug Information Service since 2002. Dave holds Editing/Writing and Advanced Medical Communication Certifications from the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA). Pain management and preceptor development are two of Dave’s areas of emphasis. Dave is a coauthor of the Neuropathic Pain Pharmacotherapy chapter in Bonica’s Management of Pain, and an editor for Drug Information: A Guide for Pharmacists, 7th edition.

In his free time, Dave enjoys traveling, scuba diving, playing guitar, kayak fishing, sipping whisky, motorcycle riding, and spending time with his wife and two cats. Dave aspires to join the ranks of the Traveler’s Century Club, by visiting at least 100 different countries (current count = 33).


 

Michelle Wheeler, PharmD

Michelle Wheeler, PharmD

Title:  Drug Information Specialist

Dr. Wheeler completed her training at UC San Francisco at the School of Pharmacy including a Pharmacy Practice Residency in 1994 and PGY2 residency in pharmacokinetics in 1995.
She came to work at the University Hospital in 1995 in a combined position with the Drug Information Center and Inpatient Pharmacy. She then took on a position as an Inpatient Anticoagulation Pharmacist in 2002 for several years, but has returned to a full time position at the Drug Information Center with a special interest in drug shortages.

Michelle enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Her new interest is playing pickleball with anyone willing.
