Alan Abbinanti, Pharmacist

Alan Abbinanti, PharmD

Title:  Pharmacy Practice Resident (Ambulatory Care)

Alan spent his early childhood moving across America with his military family, but settled in Sandy, Utah for middle and high school. After graduation from high school, he served several years in the United States Army as a Mental Health Specialist before deciding to pursue pharmacy. Alan graduated from the University of Utah College of Pharmacy where he will be continuing his education through the PGY1 ambulatory care residency. His clinical interests include family medicine, psychiatry, academia, and interprofessional collaboration.

In his free time, Alan enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. Some of his favorite activities are automotive detailing, automotive repair, camping, fishing, and playing whatever nonsensical game his children have engineered for the day.


 

Luke Brinkman, Pharmacist

Luke Brinkman, PharmD

Title:  Oncology Specialty Resident

Luke grew up on his family's dairy farm in Saint Joseph, Minnesota. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Saint Cloud State University and his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy. Luke completed his PGY1 training at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska and is excited to continue his PGY2 training in oncology at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

In his free time, Luke enjoys bouldering, playing volleyball, fishing, traveling, and hanging out with his friends and family. He is excited to see the sights of Utah and might even try skiing.


 

Maren Campbell, Pharmacist

Maren Campbell, PharmD

Title:  Pharmacy Practice Resident (General Practice)

Maren was born and raised in the small town of Fertile in northern Minnesota. She completed her undergraduate coursework at the University of Minnesota Duluth and earned her PharmD at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. Maren is thrilled to continue her pharmacy training as a PGY1 resident at the University of Utah Health. Her interest areas include oncology, hematology, and transplant.

In her free time, Maren enjoys being outdoors hiking with her dog or fishing, going to concerts, traveling with friends, and going to baseball games (Go St. Paul Saints and MN Twins!). She looks forward to taking advantage of all the great outdoor activities in Utah and getting better at rock climbing!


 

Guadalupe Chavez, Pharmacist

Guadalupe Chavez, PharmD

Title:  Pharmacy Practice Resident (Ambulatory Care)

Lupe was born and raised in Davenport, IA. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from The University of Iowa. Go Hawks! She is excited to work with the Salt Lake City community as she completes her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency with an ambulatory care focus. Her clinical and research interests include chronic disease state management and implementing new clinical pharmacy services.

Outside of pharmacy, Lupe enjoys dancing, exploring restaurants, watching action movies, and playing any friendly ball game.


 

Sean Christensen, Pharmacist

Sean Christensen, PharmD

Title:  Medication-Use Safety & Policy Specialty Resident

Sean was born and raised in South Ogden, Utah. He completed his Bachelors of Science degree in Biology with an emphasis in Human Biology and a Minor in Chemistry from Utah State University. He completed his PharmD at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy and PGY1 pharmacy practice residency with the University of Utah Health. Sean is eager to continue his pharmacy training with a PGY2 through the University of Utah Health. His current areas of interest include drug information, medication safety, and primary care.

Sean enjoys mountain biking, fishing, snowboarding, finding new eateries, cheering on the Utah Jazz, and spending time with family and friends.


 

Katie Dwyer, Pharmacist

Katie Dwyer, PharmD

Title:  Emergency Medicine Specialty Resident

Katie is originally from Santa Rosa, CA. She completed her undergraduate and earned her PharmD at the University of Kansas (Rock Chalk!). She then completed her PGY1 pharmacy residency at University of Chicago Medicine. Katie is excited to begin her training in emergency medicine at University of Utah Health as a PGY2 and continue to work alongside outstanding health care professionals. She is most excited to see what each day brings because as many know there is never a typical day in the emergency department.

Outside of pharmacy, she enjoys hiking, binge watching her favorite show(s), exploring new plant shops, and farmers markets.


 

Kathryn M. Fitton, Pharmacist

Kathryn M. Fitton, PharmD

Title:  Cardiology Specialty Resident

Katie was born and raised in the metro area of Atlanta, Georgia. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry at Georgia Institute of Technology before attending the University of Georgia to complete her PharmD. Katie completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at the University of Utah Health and is thrilled to continue her pharmacy training at the U of U as the PGY2 Cardiology Pharmacy Resident.

In her free time, Katie enjoys outdoor activities like hiking and skiing, spending time with friends and family, playing board games, and enjoying her guilty pleasure of reality TV. She is always looking for a new gelato place to try in Salt Lake City to consume her favorite dessert. In addition, the hiking and scenery in Utah are perfect to escape the stresses of residency! She has already visited all 5 national parks in Utah and is looking forward to adding more out-of-state parks to her list during the PGY2 year.


 

Megan Fonteno, Pharmacist

Megan Fonteno, PharmD

Title:  Oncology Specialty Resident

Megan was born and raised in a military family, but spent most of her childhood years in Jacksonville, FL. She attended Auburn University in Auburn, AL for her undergraduate and PharmD coursework. She completed her PGY-1 at Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, GA. She's ecstatic to start her PGY-2 oncology experience at the University of Utah! Her areas of interest include medical oncology and academia, but she is excited to explore all areas of oncology at Huntsman Cancer Center this year.

In her free time, Megan likes to be outdoors - whether that be hiking, swimming, or walking and watch her favorite tv shows that include This Is Us, Wheel of Fortune, and Grey's Anatomy. Additionally, she would love to learn how to ski and snowboard this year!


 

Chanah Gallagher, Pharmacist

Chanah Gallagher, PharmD, MS

Title:  Internal Medicine Specialty Resident

Chanah was born in Fairfax, VA and raised in Highlands Ranch, CO. She completed her BA in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at the University of Colorado (Go Buffs!) and then headed south to the University of Kentucky where she earned her PharmD and MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences. She completed her PGY1 here at the University of Utah Health and is excited to continue her training in Internal Medicine! Her interest areas include infectious disease, transitions of care, and academia.

In her free time, Chanah loves skiing, running, traveling, watching football with her family, and eating cookie dough ice cream.


 

Krystal Heinen, Pharmacist

Krystal Heinen, PharmD

Title:  Solid Organ Transplant Specialty Resident

Krystal was born and raised in Sauk Centre, Minnesota. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy and completed her PGY-1 training at Hennepin Healthcare in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Krystal could not be more excited continue her training as the PGY-2 solid organ transplant pharmacy resident. She is passionate about decreasing health disparities, especially within the transplant population.

In her free time, Krystal is an avid dancer - most frequently dancing Brazilian Zouk, salsa, and bachata. She also enjoys spending as much time outdoors as possible - swimming, hiking, and camping.

Aaron Hunsaker, PharmD

Title:  Critical Care Specialty Resident

Aaron grew up in Nixa, Missouri. He received his pharmacy degree in 2020 from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Pharmacy and completed his PGY1 residency at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. He is very excited to continue his training at the University of Utah Health as a PGY2 pharmacy resident in critical care.

During his free time, he enjoys watching baseball (go Cardinals), trying new breweries and coffee shops, making memes, and exploring the mountains.

Melanie Hunter, PharmD

Title:  Pharmacy Practice Resident (Ambulatory Care)

Melanie was born and raised in Bountiful, Utah. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy in Salt Lake City, Utah. She couldn't be more excited to continue her training at the University of Utah as a PGY1 Track B Resident. She loves interacting with patients and is proud to be a part of the most accessible health care profession. Her areas of interest include primary care, public health, leadership and advocacy, and outpatient oncology.

She enjoys hiking, camping, trying new foods and restaurants, traveling, and spending time with family.

Title:  Pharmacy Practice Resident (General Practice)

Ashley was born in Las Vegas, Nevada, and raised in Layton, Utah. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Utah and her Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy. Ashley is excited to continue her training with a PGY1 pharmacy residency through the University of Utah Health. Her current areas of interest include internal medicine, critical care, and emergency medicine.

In her free time, Ashley enjoys hiking, backpacking, road cycling, rock climbing, listening to audiobooks, and writing letters to her pen pals.


 

Victoria Jensen, Pharmacist

Victoria Jensen, PharmD

Title:  Oncology Specialty Resident

Victoria grew up near the Indianapolis, IN area. There, she attended Butler University and received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish along with a PharmD degree. Following graduation, she completed a PGY1 pharmacy residency at Eskenazi Health in Indianapolis. This year she is excited to continue her training with a specialized focus in oncology and hematology. She is passionate about health equity and enjoys participating in process and quality improvement initiatives.

Outside of the hospital, she enjoys running with her dog, hiking with her husband, and trying new restaurants with friends. During her PGY2 year she plans to make time to visit national parks within Utah.


 

Julia S. Lee, Pharmacist

Julia S. Lee, PharmD

Title:  Oncology Specialty Resident

Julia grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, then migrated to Southern California for undergraduate studies in biology and chemistry at Harvey Mudd College. After two years working in vaccine research, she returned to school for her PharmD at the University of California, San Francisco. She then moved to Salt Lake City for her PGY1 at University of Utah Health, and is excited to continue training as a PGY2 resident in oncology/hematology at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

In her free time, Julia enjoys hiking, pub trivia, board games, and watching food shows - especially Hot Ones and The Great British Bake Off.


 

Samantha Lewiston, Pharmacist

Samantha Lewiston, PharmD

Title:  Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Resident (first of two years)

Samantha was born and raised in New Berlin, WI. She graduated with her BS in Molecular Biology and PharmD from the University of Wisconsin — Madison. Her clinical interests include psychiatry, substance use disorders, cardiology and transplant. As a first year HSPAL resident, Samantha is excited to expand her patient care skills and work alongside pharmacy leaders at the University of Utah.

In her free time, Samantha enjoys exploring new restaurants, coffee shops and hikes around Salt Lake City. Samantha is looking forward to playing kickball with her co-residents this fall and attempting to ski this winter.

Kyle Manning, PharmD

Title:  Infectious Disease Specialty Resident

Kyle was born and raised in a small town named Jesup in coastal Georgia. After serving five years in the United States Army, he earned his PharmD from Auburn University in 2020. From 2020 through 2021, he completed his PGY1 training at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama. Kyle is fascinated by the complexities associated with infectious diseases and is excited to continue his training at the University of Utah Health. Having mostly lived in the southern United States, he looks forward to exploring the immense beauty that the state of Utah has to offer.

Kyle enjoys trying diverse cuisines, trying new outdoor activities, and spending time with family and friends in his free time.

Sabrina was born and raised in Highland, MI. She completed her undergraduate degree at Grand Valley State University and earned her PharmD at the University of Michigan. Her clinical interests include ambulatory care, cardiology, and academia. She is excited to continue her training at University of Utah Health as a PGY1-Track B resident.

Outside of pharmacy, Sabrina enjoys snowboarding, camping, doing yoga, and spending time with friends and family.

Title:  Internal Medicine Specialty Resident

Kara was born and raised in Littleton, CO. She earned her PharmD from the University of Wyoming in 2020 and completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at the University of Utah Health. Kara is excited to continue her training at the University of Utah Health as a PGY2 Internal Medicine Pharmacy resident.

After work, you can find Kara playing board games, working on crosswords, riding bikes, skiing, and spending time with friends and family!

Title:  Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Resident (first of two years)

Chloe was born and raised in the Kansas City area. She obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Kansas. Her clinical interests include internal medicine, oncology, psych, and ambulatory care. Chloe is thrilled to make the move to Salt Lake City and continue her pharmacy training as a first year HSPAL resident at the University of Utah Health!

In her free time, Chloe enjoys getting outdoors, reading, and spending time with friends and family. She is looking forward to exploring the beauty of Utah and skiing the slopes in the winter!

Title:  Ambulatory Care Specialty Resident

Diana was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology degree at Nebraska Wesleyan University and her Doctorate of Pharmacy degree from The University of Nebraska Medical Center. Diana is eager to begin an ambulatory care focused PGY1 residency and manage chronic disease states as part of the patient care team.

In her free time, Diana enjoys playing golf, traveling with her husband, and trying new ice cream places.

Title:  Informatics Specialty Resident

Dylan grew up in Laramie, WY, where he completed his undergraduate coursework and earned his PharmD at the University of Wyoming. He then completed his PGY1 residency at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in the Portland, Oregon metro area. Dylan is beyond excited to return to the mountain west region and to continue his training as the PGY-2 pharmacy informatics resident at the University of Utah! His current areas of interest include clinical decision support, data analytics and reporting, as well as automation.

In his free time, Dylan enjoys playing board games with friends, hiking and skiing, as well as listening to music, going to concerts, and looking for more vinyl records to add to his collection.

Title:  Pharmacy Practice Resident (General Practice)

Aaron was born in Hudson, Iowa but moved to the greater Cincinnati area at a young age. He earned his bachelor's in chemistry from Northern Kentucky University and his doctorate in chemistry from the University of Kentucky prior to earning his doctorate in pharmacy from the University of Cincinnati. Aaron is excited to continue his pharmacy training at the University of Utah Health. His current interests include oncology, hematology, and solid organ transplant.

Outside of pharmacy, Aaron is married to his beautiful and talented wife Kheo, and the proud animal-parent to Champ and Pinot. Hobbies include hiking, backpacking, and film photography.

I was born and raised in Holladay, Utah. I completed my Bachelors in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Utah. I did my PharmD at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy, and am excited to continue my learning here at University of Utah Health! My current areas of interest include Internal Medicine and Primary Care.

I enjoy hiking, eating, fishing, anything outdoors that Utah has to offer, and spending time with friends and family! I also have two cats that I really love hanging out with!

Title:  Pharmacy Practice Resident (General Practice)

Presley was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in biblical studies from Arizona Christian University while competing as a colligate athlete (softball). She went on to complete her PharmD at the University of Utah College of Pharmacy. Presley is eager to continue her pharmacy training with a PGY1 pharmacy residency through the University of Utah Health. Her current areas of interest include Critical Care, Oncology and Acute Care in Internal Medicine. Other aspirations include serving on an international medical mission team and owning a small B&B in Hawaii.

In her free time, she enjoys game nights with friends, making new recipes, exploring SLC restaurants, CrossFit and spending time with family.

Carlie Wilke, PharmD

Title:  Health System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Resident (second of two years)

Carlie was born and raised in Marinette, WI. She graduated with a BA in Physiology and a Management minor from the University of Minnesota — Twin Cities before moving back to earn her PharmD at the University of Wisconsin — Madison. Her current interests include clinical management, pharmacy practice advancement, quality improvement, and workflow optimization. As a second year HSPAL resident, Carlie is excited to work alongside pharmacy leaders and managers to positively impact patient care at University of Utah Health.

In her free time, Carlie enjoys cooking/baking, weightlifting, petting dogs, outdoor activities, and spending time with her friends and family. Additionally, she is an avid sports fan and loves cheering against the Packers despite her WI roots. Carlie is excited to continue exploring new restaurants, hiking trails, and other fun activities in Utah this year.
