Povidone Iodine Products

H&P Industries is voluntarily recalling all lots of povidone iodine products including Swabsticks, Prep Solutions, Scrub Solutions, and Prep Gel. The Prep Pads were recalled in March, 2011. The current recall is due to inadequate measures taken by the company for testing of microbial organisms when product was released or any procedures to evaluate incoming components or to prevent microorganisms from occurring. Multiple brands are affected by this recall and are available on the FDA MedWatch report from August 27, 2011.The link to these products is listed below.
Povidone iodine is an antiseptic used on the skin prior to surgery or on minor wounds to prevent infection. Contaminated povidone iodine products may cause serious or fatal infections, especially in surgical patients or patients with suppressed immune systems. Currently, no infections associated with povidone iodine preparations from H&P Industries have been reported.
Consumers and healthcare professionals should stop using the affected povidone iodine preparations immediately. Consumers may return product to the place of purchase or call H&P Industries customer service at 262-538-2907 Monday through Friday between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM Central Time. Wholesalers and hospitals should contact H&P Industries at email@example.com to get detailed information on returning or destroying affected product.
