University of Utah Pharmacy Residents 2011 - 2012

Erin Vailey, PharmD   Erin Bailey, PharmD, Oncology Specialty Resident
 

Erin is a born and raised West Virginia Mountaineer! Erin obtained her PharmD at the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy in Morgantown, WV. She completed her PGY-1 residency at the University of Utah Hospital. Currently, Erin is a hematology/oncology specialty resident at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, UT.

Beyond the realm of pharmacy, Erin enjoys cheering on the Blue and Gold and spending time outdoors. She is excited about spending a second year in Utah because she will be able to continue some of her favorite "Mountain State" pastimes: fishing, hiking, and camping. Erin also loves to travel and has enjoyed exploring the beauties of southern Utah!

Zubin Bhakta is a 2011 graduate of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy in Amarillo and Dallas, TX. He grew up in the panhandle West Texas town of Friona. Before attending pharmacy school he received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. He has traveled to many different countries and enjoys experiencing a wide variety of regions and climates.

He is currently a pharmacy practice resident at the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics. Outside of working at the hospital, he enjoys spending time with his friends and family. While in Utah, he hopes to enjoy the great outdoors and plans on visiting each of the major National Parks in Utah. He enjoys playing tennis, and hopes to capitalize on all of the various seasons that Salt Lake City has to offer.

Pharmacy is Mick’s second career. He was a software engineer for 17 years before going to pharmacy school. Mick graduated from the University of Colorado Denver with a PharmD in 2010. His PGY-1 residency was completed at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY.

Mick has been married for 8 years, but his wife is remaining in Denver during his residency. In his spare time, Mick enjoys woodworking, skiing, inline skating, ice hockey, hiking, camping, home brewing and beer judging.

Kyle is born and raised Missouri boy. He earned his PharmD from University of Missouri – Kansas City. His diverse professional interests include critical care, transplant, and internal medicine... just to name a few. He is excited to learn from the best here at the University of Utah.

Outside of pharmacy, Kyle enjoys what Mother Nature has to offer and is ready to take advantage of the Utah topography. He spends most of his free time backpacking, running, snowboarding, and trying new extreme things.

Sara is from the "Show Me State" of Missouri. She graduated from the University of Missouri - Kansas City in 2010 and completed her PGY1 residency at the University of Utah in 2011. She is excited to be staying in Utah for her PGY2 year in hematology/oncology at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

In her free time, Sara enjoys spending time outdoors. Her favorite activities include trail running, cycling, hiking in the Wasatch, and visiting the surrounding National Parks. She also enjoys cooking, reading, and playing board games.

I am excited to be the PGY2 Drug Information resident this year! I completed my PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residency here at the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics and earned my PharmD from the University of California, San Francisco. My areas of interest include drug information (of course!) and ambulatory care. I am looking forward to completing a rotation at the FDA this year as well.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, family, and friends. I love playing any sport that involves the use of a racquet (tennis, racquetball, and ping pong). This year, I am excited to learn and perfect the art of making chocolate, in addition to indulge my artsy side (photography, painting, and other crafts).

A little from here and a little from there, I have spent the majority of my life in North Carolina. I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with my PharmD, and I am proud to be a Tar Heel. My professional interests include oncology, psychiatry, and teaching/academia.

A 2000 mile trek to the other side of the country was just the beginning to the adventures this year has in store. In addition to pursuing my interests within pharmacy, I am excited to have the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of Utah and the culture of Salt Lake City. Jack of all but master of none, I enjoy anything that allows me to keep busy -- traveling, meeting people, dancing, being outdoors, hiking, cooking, reading, volunteering -- you get the hint. I also enjoy spending time with friends and family and participating in cultural activities.

Matthew was born and raised in Seoul, Korea and moved to Los Angeles in 2006. Matthew earned his PharmD from Western University of Health Sciences College of Pharmacy in California. His professional interests include improving patient care, cost effectiveness analysis, operational efficiency in pharmacy, and leadership development.

For fun, Matthew enjoys running, eating sushi, and doing P90X, which helped him to lose 20 lb last year. He is a passionate basketball player and loves to watch NBA games. Ever since he moved to Utah, he decided to support Jazz even though their next season doesn’t look so great (go Jazz!).

McKay received his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Wyoming, School of Pharmacy. He is originally from Orem, UT and is excited to be back in his home state for a community practice residency. His professional interests include community pharmacy, outpatient clinical services and managed care.

McKay currently lives in Draper with his wife, Jessica; son, Daxton; and dog, Sam. When McKay isn’t working he is spending time with his family doing anything interesting and exciting. He loves golfing and rarely passes up an opportunity to play a few holes with his family and friends. McKay loves to travel, especially to warmer climates with sandy beaches and good food.

Tyler was born and raised on the beautiful dusty yellow plains of Amarillo, TX. He completed his PharmD education at the Texas Tech University School of Pharmacy where he graduated in 2011. He is excited for the opportunity to be at the U, and is looking forward to developing and exploring potential areas of interest including critical care, infectious disease and emergency medicine.

Outside of the hospital walls, Tyler enjoys spending time outdoors (running, biking, camping etc...), and hopes to markedly improve his fire-building skills throughout the course of the year. He also enjoys finding new music and watching the ebb and flow of the Texas Rangers baseball season.

Nimisha completed her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI in 2010. Following graduation she moved to Charleston, South Carolina, for her pharmacy practice residency at the Medical University of South Carolina. She is now pursuing a PGY2 Specialty Residency in Solid Organ Transplant.

In her spare time, Nimisha enjoys spending time with friends, shopping, music, movies, and traveling.

I am very exciting to be back in Utah completing my residency at the University of Utah Hospitals! I am originally from Richfield, a small town in central Utah. I completed my undergraduate work at Dixie State College in Saint George, Utah before moving to Laramie, Wyoming to complete my Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Wyoming. My professional interests include internal medicine, oncology, and cardiology.

My time away from work is spent with my two children, Jordan (15 yr) and Cayson (11 yr). We enjoy all of the outdoor activities that Utah has to offer, especially hiking, riding motorcycles/ATVs, and skiing/snowboarding! We often spend our leisurely time at the movies or visiting family a few hours south of Salt Lake.

Jessica was raised in Anchorage, Alaska and loves to talk about the Land of the Midnight Sun! She obtained her Pharm.D. from the University of New Mexico, and then travelled to New York City to complete her PGY-1 at NewYork-Presbyterian Cornell and Columbia Medical Centers. She returned to the Land of Enchantment for a position as an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice with the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy, where she worked in Internal Medicine and taught Immunology/Hematology for the past three years. Her marriage in 2010 brought her to Los Angeles, California, where she remained for a short while before deciding the time was ripe to finally pursue a specialty in Hematology/Oncology. Following this year at Huntsman Cancer Institute, she aims to work in a clinical position at an academic medical center.

Jessica is very excited to be in the beautiful state of Utah to enjoy ample outdoor recreational opportunities. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her husband, visiting family, laughing with friends, cooking, running, hiking, reading, and travelling.

Jacob White was born and raised in Salt Lake City. Jacob did his undergraduate education and received his PharmD from the University of Utah. Following his PGY1 at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, he returned to his hometown for a PGY2 in Critical Care. Jacob is excited to be back at the University of Utah and looks forward to pursuing a career in critical care or emergency medicine.

Outside of the hospital, Jacob enjoys photography, snowboarding, and hiking.
