Ginseng Kianpi Pil

FDA is warning consumers not to use or purchase Ginseng Kianpi Pil from Kweilin Drug Manufactory because the product may contain undeclared drug ingredients. This dietary supplement is advertised for relieving fatigue, improving the immune system, stimulating appetite, and promoting weight gain. FDA laboratory analysis of Ginseng Kianpi Pil identified dexamethasone, a corticosteroid, and cyproheptadine, an antihistamine. Adverse events of corticosteroids include high blood glucose, high blood pressure, decreased immune response, bone problems, psychiatric problems, and withdrawal. Adverse events of antihistamines include drowsiness and decreased mental alertness. Use of Ginseng Kianpi Pil may be associated with serious side effects if combined with other medications.
