Healthy Life Chemistry Dietary Supplement

July 30, 2013

FDA is notifying the public not to buy or use Healthy Life Chemistry by Purity First B-50 because preliminary tests show it contains methasterone, a controlled substance, and dimethazine. These two ingredients, which are not listed on the product label, are potentially harmful anabolic steroids. Products that contain undeclared steroids are illegal. This product is sold on the internet and in retail stores as a Vitamin B dietary supplement. The manufacturer has not recalled the product or warned consumers about the potential consequences resulting from its use.

Adverse events reported to the FDA with this product include fatigue, muscle cramping, muscle pain, abnormal laboratory values for liver and thyroid function, and abnormal cholesterol values. Irregular hair growth and missed menstruation were reported in females and impotence and low testosterone findings were reported in males who used Healthy Life Chemistry. Other serious long-term effects of anabolic steroids can occur in women, men, and children (eg, increased risk of heart attack and stroke, increased development of masculine features in women, enlargement of breasts, shrinkage of testicles, increased risk of male infertility, and shortened growth in children).  Acute liver injury may also occur from use of anabolic steroid-containing products.

Educate patients to stop using Healthy Life Chemistry and contact their primary caregiver with any concerns.  Patients and healthcare professionals are advised to report any adverse effects related to this product to FDA’s MedWatch program.
